Driver speeds through roadworks at 152km/h

FROM THE FORCE:  A 24 year old man will appear before Yass Local Court accused of dangerous speeding through the Barton Highway roadworks at Murrumbateman.

Yass Highway Patrol clocked the man at 152km/h in a 60km/h zone, at 6.45am on Tuesday.

The man, from Ngunnawal in the ACT,  was issued a field court attendance notice for dangerous speeding more than 45 km/h over the limit.

Family member reports cannabis find

A 24 year old man from Gundaroo has been charged with possessing a prohibited drug, after a large amount of cannabis was found at his home.

Police said they were called on Monday August 10 when a member of the man’s family discovered the drugs.

He will appear before Goulburn Local Court on September 23.

Cannabis found in car

A 35 year old Yass man will appear before Yass Local Court for possessing a prohibited drug after police found 22.3g of cannabis in his vehicle.

Police stopped the driver on Church Street Yass, at 2pm on Wednesday August 12.

He will appear before Yass Local Court on September 8.

Mid-range drink driving

A 22 year old Bowning woman has been charged with drink driving after testing positive to a roadside test at 7.10pm on Friday August 14.

Police stopped her car on Bowning Road at Bowning.

A blood-alcohol test revealed a reading of 0.110 and she was charged with mid-range drink driving.

Her licence was automatically suspended.

She will appear in Yass Local Court next month.

Stolen registration plates detected 

A 39 year old man from Cabramatta has been charged with stealing and driving an unregistered vehicle.

He was stopped by police on Barton Highway near the Yass Valley Way intersection at 9.45pm Sunday August 16.

Checks revealed the vehicle’s registration plates had been stolen from an address in Bankstown..

Public urinator fined $500

A 33 year old man from Murrumbateman was fined $500 for urinating on the front door of a local hotel at 2.40am Sunday August 16.

Drunk teen fined

An 18 year old Yass man has been fined $220 for failing to move on after being directed to by police.

Police were called to an incident outside a local hotel at 11.40pm Saturday August 15. The man had been seen punching trees and yelling abuse at passers by in Comur Street.

His friends tried to get him to leave the area when police issued their move on direction, but he instead ran a short distance and began tipping over empty beer kegs.

He was detained by police and driven home to be left in the company of a responsible adult.

Drunk driver caught speeding

A 62 year old man from Tarneit Victoria, has been charged with mid-range drink driving after he was caught speeding through roadworks at Murrumbateman.

Police stopped him on the Barton Highway at 7.40am on August 15, because he was travelling 85km/h through the posted 60km/h roadworks zone.

A breath test revealed a blood-alcohol reading of 0.094.

He was  suspended from driving in NSW and will appear in Yass Local Court next month.

Tools stolen

Tools worth $900 have been stolen from a residential garage in Petit Street, Yass.

Police believe the garage was broken into sometime  between 1am and 4.30am on August 14.

KingChrome and Bluepoint sockets, open ended spanners and ratchets sets were taken. The tools were coloured blue.

Sheep killed

Three sheep have been killed by dogs on a property at Jerrawa sometime between 5.30pm August 7 and 8.30am August 10. Inquiries are continuing.

Car vandalised

Between 11pm August 10 and 9.15am August 11, a Holden Commodore that was parked at an address in Cobham Street, Yass, has been damaged with scratches to the paintwork. Inquiries are continuing.

Taxi driver assaulted

A 29 year old Yass man was charged with assaulting a taxi driver during an incident

at 2.20am, Sunday August 2.

Police allege the man assaulted the taxi driver at the taxi rank after a dispute upon getting into the cab.

He will appear in Yass Local Court on September 8.
