Still time to have your say on rate increase with IPART

Dear Editor

As you may be aware, on 12 February 2016 Yass Valley Council submitted a Special Rate Variation (SRV) application to the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal of New South Wales (IPART).

Council proposes to raise rates over four years to 8.5 per cent per annum, roughly 6 per cent above the rate peg depending on where the peg is set.

As part of their consideration of Council’s application, IPART will accept submissions from interested parties and individual ratepayers up until 14 March 2016.

Submissions may be lodged via the ‘lodge a submission’ button next to Yass Valley Council at the bottom of this webpage.

IPART will also accept submissions via email or post:

Email: localgovernment@ipart.nsw.gov.au

or posted to:

Local Government Team

Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal of NSW

PO Box K35

Haymarket Post Shop, NSW 1240

Community members may have taken the opportunity to share their views on the proposed SRV with Yass Valley Council; however this is an opportunity for the community to share its views directly with the independent regulator.

Regardless of whether you support or oppose Council’s application, I would encourage community members inform themselves on the five criteria Council’s application will be assessed against and to make a submission to IPART for their consideration.

Regards,
