Teenager caught speeding twice in fifteen minutes

At 6:30am yesterday, Yass Highway Patrol were conducting speed enforcement duties on Sutton Road, Gundaroo.

A 19 year-old male P2 license holder was detected at 143km/hr in a 100km/hr zone.

The driver was issued with an infringement for exceeding the speed limit by more than 30km/hr, which incurs an $855 fine and five demerit points.

His licence was suspended immediately by police for three months.

At about 6:45am, the same male was observed by Yass Highway Patrol to be driving again on Sutton Road after being informed of his licence suspension.

He was issued a court attendance notice for driving while suspended and is to appear before Yass Local Court in April.

Woman injured in head-on remains in hospital

A 70 year-old woman from Young remains in The Canberra Hospital with serious leg injuries after a head-on collision on the Barton Highway on Monday.

She and the second driver, a 19 year-old man from Harden, were transported to hospital after being treated at the scene by paramedics.

The woman was trapped for at least an hour before being freed from the wreckage.

Emergency crews were called to the collision at 4.25pm near the Capricorn Horse Stud.

The Barton Highway was closed to traffic for a number of hours during the clean up operation.

It was the second serious accident of the day; a logging truck had rolled onto the median strip on the Hume Highway near Bowning earlier that morning. Read that story here.

Wanted driver arrested in Yass

A 41 year-old man was arrested on the Hume Highway on a warrant issued from Victorian police on Sunday.

He was arrested at 2.40pm near the intersection of Lachlan Valley Way and faces a number of charges.

He will appear in Yass Local Court soon.

Man fined $550 for failing to quit pub

A 29 year-old man was fined $550 for failing to leave a local pub after being given a direction to by police.

Police issued the infringement at 10.20pm on Saturday.

Drink driving

A 25 year-old man was arrested for low range drink driving on the Barton Highway on Saturday.

Police stopped his vehicle at 9.21pm.

The driver submitted to a breath test, which recorded a level of 0.063.

He will appear in Yass Local Court next month.

Vehicle fire

Police were called to a vehicle fire on Murrumbateman Road on February 24.

The silver Honda was reported at 6pm and the fire had burnt out when crews arrived on scene.

It had been parked in a paddock at the time and was not reported stolen.

Traffic offences

A 21 year-old Cootamundra woman was charged with a number of traffic offences while stopped at the Yass Service Centre for a random breath test at 7pm on February 23.

She was charged with driving a vehicle without carrying licence, being a Learner driver who was unaccompanied, failing to display Learner plates, displaying misleading number plates, and taking and driving a conveyance.

She will appear before Yass Local Court next month.

Truck rollover at Wee Jasper

A Kenworth truck rolled over on Wee Jasper Road at 9.30pm on February 22.

The 30 year-old male driver from Wayo, NSW, was uninjured.

Police issued defect notices on the truck.

Elderly driver escapes injury

An 81 year-old woman escaped injury when she was involved in a single vehicle accident on Nanima Road recently.

Police said she lost control negotiating a bend in the road on a gravelled surface, at about 12.05pm February 22.
