Happy Easter Murrumbateman

Easter has certainly crept up this year, I’m looking forward to fabulous food and special time with my family, a spot of gardening and hopefully exploring a winery or two during the break.

Tonight (Thursday), we’re heading to the Murrumbateman Country Inn for dinner (they’re closed on Friday but open every other day/night). There’s seafood raffles with money raised going towards Murrumbateman Junior Sports, something that Andrew McLean has been working hard towards establishing for the village.

If you’re after fish on Good Friday, the take away will be open (and then closed until Wednesday April 8). Les’s Coffee and Sweets is open Saturday with fresh hot cross buns and then closed until Tuesday April 7.

I’m eager to check out Murrumbateman Winery’s cellar door renovations (corner Barton Hwy and McIntosh Circuit) and the Ruth Dodd art exhibition at Shaw Vineyard Estate on Saturday from 10am. Flint at Shaw Vineyard’s annual Easter egg hunt is on at 11am on Sunday for children under 10 and they’re offering bacon and egg rolls from 10am.

Most of the wineries are open Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 10am – 4/5pm, best to check their websites if you’re partial to a particular one.

After all that hopping around, it’ll be nice to relax and enjoy Sunday with my family, we’ll search the garden for surprises left by the Easter bunny while our cranberry, orange, bacon, walnut and parsley stuffed turkey roasts away with potatoes and sweet dutch carrots in the weber.

The Caltex general store will be back to their 8pm closing time as of this weekend, you can try your luck on Saturday night but the public holidays (Friday and Sunday) and from Monday April 6, the store will operate Monday – Saturday, 6am – 8pm and Sundays 7am – 7pm.

Murrumbateman Pharmacy & Medical is closed from 7pm Thursday April 2 and will reopen Tuesday April 7, 10am – 7pm. Murrumbateman Rural Supplies is open Saturday, 8am – 4pm and return on Tuesday April 7. If you’re up for a trip to the tip, the Murrumbateman transfer station is open everyday as normal except Good Friday.

This weekend also marks the end of daylight savings so remember to turn your clocks back on Saturday night.
