IMG_4398The big event in Murrumbateman (and the Canberra wine region) this weekend though is the Wine Harvest Festival. It’s a weekend to relax and celebrate the new vintage with cool climate wines, entertainment and great food. Ten of the 20 participating wineries are located right here in Murrumbateman, and three close by in both Gundaroo and Wallaroo.
A traditional pickers lunch box of hearty food is on offer at Yarrh Wines (440 Greenwood Road) as well as freshly fermented wine tastings, scarecrow making, grape stomping and live music. Rock the afternoon away with Chris Johnson’s rock’n’roll at Dionysus Winery (1 Patemans Lane) or try a wood fired pizza at Four Winds Vineyard (9 Patemans Lane) while listening to the Philpot sibling duo . There’s also lots of action planned at Jeir Creek Wines (Gooda Creek Road) with harvesting, crushing and pressing of this years rose at 11am Saturday and then tastings with the winemaker on Sunday.

Barton Estate (Barton Highway, opposite Capricorn Stud) have harvest lunch platters and cheesecake, and jazz music from 1-4pm. Gallagher Wines (2770 Dog Trap Road) are offering homemade Mediterranean tapas and filo baskets with peach-passionfruit mascarpone and live music. Granitevale Estate’s (153 Magennis Drive) beef cheeks and rum and raisin tiramisu sound mighty tempting!

Shaw Vineyards (Isabel Drive) have three artists exhibiting work in the shearing shed and Flint are open 12-3pm for lunch with live music both days. Share a tapas plate and two glasses of wine for just $20 at McKellar Ridge Wines (2 Euroka Avenue) and listen to vintage talks at 11am and 2pm. Murrumbateman Winery (Corner Barton Highway and McIntosh Circuit) has fun, food and fine wine with tastings and live music. This weekends event is extremely exciting at the local wineries, if you have the time I really recommend dropping in.

We had more excitement at our place than just the Easter bunny with the birth of twin lambs in the early hours of Sunday morning. We named them Zec (pronounced Zetz, translation = rabbit) and Calypso, and they have been a very welcome arrival and treat for our kids.
