Fatal accident on Hume

BREAKING: An elderly man is dead and two people are injured after a collision near the intersection of the Hume and Barton highways earlier today.

Police, ambulance and fire emergency crews were called to the scene, about 10km from Yass at Manton, at 11.18am.

It is believed three vehicles were involved.
Police said the man had been outside of his vehicle parked along the northbound lane of the Hume Highway when he was struck by a b-double truck.
He died at the scene.
Two people were transported to Yass Hospital suffering injuries. They were trapped inside the wreckage for a short time.
Both northbound lanes of the Hume were closed to traffic for five hours during investigations, with vehicles diverted along Yass Valley Way.
One northbound lane of the Hume has now reopened.
Police urge motorists to try and avoid congestion in the area and to travel cautiously.
