A 42-year-old driver has been fined $2306 for speeding 102km/h in a 50km/h residential area in Murrumbateman on Saturday.

The man, from Young, was stopped on the Barton Highway after turning from Hercules Street, at 11.08pm.

Checks revealed his licence had previously been disqualified and a roadside breath test came back positive.

His blood-alcohol level was 0.132 and he was charged with mid-range drink driving.

He was ordered to appear before Yass Local Court next month.

Dangerous dog owner abused police

A 22-year-old Yass man has been arrested for offensive language and resisting police after an argument over his dangerous dog.

The man was walking his dog on Grand Junction Road at 1.30pm on Saturday when police noticed it wasn’t wearing a muzzle, as required when an animal is previously declared dangerous by authorities.

It was however on a leash.

When talking to police the man became verbally abusive despite warnings he would be charged if he continued the abuse.

He will appear before Yass Local Court on October 6.
