SWIMMING: The first round of the 50th anniversary year of Shine Shields has kicked off at Harden.

Yass was very well represented and put on a show displaying the benefits of training hard.

Our youngest representatives Mia Gibbs and Tash Phillips swam their hearts out all evening and are future swimmers to keep an eye on.

The oldies (Paul Bush, Mj Fernandez, Cheryl Harris and Paul Wilkinson) had a win in the over thirties relay with some questionable warm up techniques on display by one member of the team.

The competition was fierce between training rivals Tegan Davis, Poppy Ritchard and Darcy Payne with many of their races ending in very close finishes.

The heat was on between Jarred Carey and Riley Gibbs as they shared the wins in all four events.

Bronte Anderson, Gemma Phillips, Chelsea Button, Addie Hinds, Felicity Button and Mackenzie Keith all gave 100 per cent in each of their swims and were rewarded with some fantastic results on the clock.

Shaun Harris proved that size doesn’t always matter as he had plenty of heart swimming to the best of his ability in all of his events.

Oscar Betts and Ben Thornely have shown a vast amount of improvement since the beginning of the season and will continue to improve with each swim as will their siblings Anna Betts and Cooper Thornely.

Jasmine Davis, Shayla Anderson and Rhiannon Davis provided some very entertaining races as they were neck and neck is each of their events swimming some big PB’s along the way.

Another fierce rivalry was between brothers Mick and Craig Wilkinson. In Mick’s pet event breaststroke, the clock was the only thing that would determine who the winner was.

The swimmers that have shown the most growth since the beginning of the season are Tegan Davis, Rhiannon Davis, Nick Hinds and Tom Girdler which is a reflection of the hard work they have put in at training.

Mig Fernandez

The swimmers that were the most successful for the night were Darcey Bush, Tom Carey, Rhiannon Davis, Bronte Anderson, Tully Howard, Gus Hinds and Mig Fernandez.

Special mention must go to Thomas Carey who broke the 12 years boys 50m freestyle record. Well done to all swimmers on a great carnival.

Thomas Carey broke a 21-year record.

Thank you to all the parents for taking their kids along, there wouldn’t be a carnival without you.
It would be great to see even more children and adults representing Yass at Jugiong this Saturday.
