Dog park location undecided

COUNCILLORS failed to agree on the location of a proposed off-leash dog park, at the Yass Valley Council meeting last night.

The council had conducted a survey of residents over the past couple of months, proposing three alternative locations at Walker Park, Joe O’Connor Park, and Riverbank Park near Flat Rock Crossing.

Forty-eight per cent of the 222 respondents preferred an area adjacent to Walker Park.

However, councillors Gary Ware and Jasmin Jones argued against this location because it was not central enough and because the other two alternatives had, between them, garnered a majority (52 per cent) of support from those surveyed.

Councillors voted  to deputise Cr Michael McManus and Cr Jones, supported by council staff, to re-examine the two more central options and come up with their preferred option. The Council will then proceed on the basis of their recommendation.
