High range drink driving

A 55-year-old man from Reid, ACT was charged with high-range drink driving on the Barton Highway on Wednesday, February 24.

Witnesses contacted police and complained about the manner of driving. Police located the vehicle as it was turning onto Yass Valley Way.

A roadside breath test revealed a reading of .270.

The man’s licence was automatically suspended and a future court attendance notice issued for him to appear before Ysass Local Court on May 12.

Shoplifting

A 33-year-old Jerrawa woman was issued with a field court attendance notice for shoplifting, after stealing a packet of “Lice ’n Easy” lice treatment for horses from Home Hardware, at Irvine Square in Yass.

The incident happened at 2.05pm February 17. The treatment was valued at $55.

Speeding, drug offences

A 24-year-old woman from Shell Harbour in NSW was stopped for speeding at 6.06am on Friday, March 4 on the Hume Highway at Bowning.

Police said the driver admitted to being an unaccompanied learner driver.

Further checks revealed her learner licence was suspended from June 2015.

A small plastic bag of white powder was also located inside vehicle. The driver said the bag contained the drug ice, but denied ownership.

She was charged with possessing a prohibited drug weighing 0.037g and was fined for speeding.

She will appear before Yass Local Court on April 14.

Hindering police

A 23-year-old man from Binalong has been charged with hindering police after becoming involved in an incident at 11.30pm March.

Police said the offender tried to release his friend from the back of a police paddy wagon after he had been arrested in Comur Street, Yass.

He will appear before Yass Local Court on April 14.

Drink driving

A 57-year-old man from Good Hope was stopped by police for a random breath test at 8pm on March 4 while driving on Grand Junction Road, Yass.

He returned a positive result, with his breath analysis reading 0.153.

His licence was cancelled after he submitted to a blood test, and he will appear before Yass Local Court on June 16.

Failing to quit pub

A 24-year-old man was fined $550 for failing to leave a licensed premises after being directed to by police.

The man was ejected at 11.45pm on March 4, but was later captured on the hotel’s CCTV footage as he returned to the establishment at 12.30am.

He will receive another fine for being an excluded person who has attempted to regain entry.

Low range drink driving

A 35-year-old man has been charged with drink driving in Laidlaw Street, Yass.

Police stopped the driver at 7.30pm on Saturday to conduct a random breath test.

He recorded a level of 0.058.

He will appear in Yass Local Court next month.

Mid range drink driving

A 34-year-old man has had his licence suspended after he was stopped for drink driving on Lead Street, Yass.

Police conducted a random breath test on the driver of a white Mitsubishi Triton at 6.20pm on Saturday, where he recorded a mid range level of  0.145.

He will appear before Yass Local Court soon.
