U9 Spiders v Radford

The Yass Under 9 Spiders played Radford at Walker Park this weekend. It was a fast paced and close match. The Spiders really dug deep and were rewarded with an excellent result.

It was hard to pick man of the match Johnathan Alley as all the players put in 110 per cent effort. With no subs on the day everyone had to work that little bit harder to hold off a determined Radford.

Jack Davis (captain) gave some good instructions to his team at kick off and was always involved in the plays. Floyd and Hugh had some good breaks into space and Benjamin was always looking out for the unmarked players.

D’Artagnan was doing well with his throw ins this week and also took a corner. Caleb defended well and made taking the ball off attacking players look easy.

The Spiders put in a great effort and it was an enjoyable if nail-biting match for the spectators.

U12: Canberra Grammar v U12 Redbacks

The Yass U12 Redback Team travelled to Flinders Oval to take on Canberra Grammar . In perfect weather for football the Redbacks were in a class of their own . They played  superior attacking football throughout the game and the defensive backline were never troubled.

The Yass Redbacks led 6-0 at halftime with Keegan Doyle finding the back of the net on three occasions . Mitchell Starr was equally as dangerous with two goals and Max Hansson scoring his first for the year.

The Redbacks continued the dominance in the second half with a faultless display . Calvin Morgan and Ruben Robinson were excellent in the midfield and this led to Yass scoring another six goals in the second half . Keegan Doyle added another two goals to his tally to five for the game.

Brooklyn Bolton to the delight of the coach scored her first goal for the club . Ben Luck was another goal scorer and Zach Enseleit in a rare venture into the midfield  scored 2 exceptional goals .

The U12 Redbacks are a well balanced side with lots of talent that have started the year very well and are yet to concede a goal.

Final score Yass Redbacks 12 to Canberra Grammar 0.

U13 Redbacks v Canberra Grammar

Yass U13 Redbacks had a slow start to the game but once they had settled down and held their positions the game started to go a bit more their way.

Canberra Grammar had a tough time getting through the Yass defence which was led by Ben Thornely and supported by Megan Kemp and Jamie-Lee Fisher.

Strong play by the midfielders Harry Gomersal, Matt Doggett and Rueben Rosario pushed the ball through to the front line.

Aden Nasralla, Bryn Skelton and Jack Gallagher had a number of shots on goal but unlucky for the boys Canberra Grammar had a good keeper.

Eventually, Jack and Bryn hit the back of the net. With numbers available on the sideline Yass managed to stay fresh and keep pushing.

Unfortunately, Grammar managed to equalise going to half time 2-2.

New recruit Deana Nasralla teamed up with Rhiannon Davis to chase down any attempt by Canberra Grammar to score, giving Yass the confidence to take more shots on goal.

Bryn assisted by Zeke Groom scored again pushing Yass into the lead. Unfortunate scrappy play in the goal box saw Grammar put one past second half goal keeper Sam Perris despite his best efforts.

Will Pettigrew and Caitlin Witt took a turn on the front line keeping the pressure on the Grammar keeper. With minutes to go Charlie Bush fought hard and stole the ball giving Bryn an opportunity to get his hat trick for the game.

Whilst it wasn’t their finest game Yass walked away with a 4-3 win.

U18: Tuggeranong v U18 Redbacks

The Yass Redbacks Under 18’s travelled to Tuggeranong and it was great to cheer Jayson Young on the field in his 100th game, well done.

Yass had a good 5 – 1 victory, despite the game being a bit scrappy at times.

The team had trouble putting good passing moves together and loss of footing and poor ball control at times put them under unnecessary pressure.

Even so, the Yass team spent a high percentage of time threatening the Tuggeranong goal, but some last ditch defense prevented more goals being scored.

After Yass eventually settled down, the first goal came from pressure from Joel, who was unlucky not to score but forced an own goal. The second goal was struck home by Toby after a scramble in front of the Tuggeranong goal.  The score remained 2-0 at half-time.

The second period saw two more goals by Toby (a hat-trick on the day) and a good scoring strike by Tim after a poor clearance in front of goal by the opposition.

Although not a polished performance by Yass, it was certainly superior to the opposition. The coach was pleased with the team work and passing and it leaves plenty of opportunities for improvement in future games.

Elliot was unlucky not to keep a clean sheet as 20 minutes into the second half as a shot snuck in on the near post.

The back line of Brad, Luke, Kris, Hayden and Sam worked hard and cancelled out any attacking threats.

The mid field of Joel, Mark, Toby, Alex and Jayson controlled the flow of play for large periods of the game, while the forwards, Dom, Brendon and Tim made the opposition’s defense work hard and scramble all game.

The Yass Under 18’s have a Bye next weekend, before playing Canberra Grammar away the following Saturday.
