Yass knocks down top-ranked Vikings

JUNIOR RUGBY: It was a was a cold, windy day as the Yass-Rosary Rams stepped on to the wet Vikings home field.
Their faces showed determination and desire to win against the top-ranked team of the competition.

It took a little while for the Rams to find their rhythm but once they did, the game was an exciting one.
The fight for possession of the ball was fierce and everyone worked hard to get it out to the wings where Tom Carey was the star of the day.
He scored twice in the first half with Patrick McPhillips also running in a try.  The team supported them with excellent carries to move down field.

Jerome McGrath, Jason Norman, and Jordan Wilson were some of the standouts of the half.
Charlie Crozier kicked all the conversions while helping lead the fight on the field.
All the boys were on point throughout the game, scrabbling for the ball, taking hard tackles and pushing off in the ruck.

The Viking Blacks fought hard, scoring twice in the first half but missing one crucial conversion.
It was a grim second half with both teams fighting hard for possession of the ball.  The Vikings scored another two times with excellent conversions of both.
The Yass-Rosary Rams continued to push through with George Walker, Eddie Bartle, Jordan Wilson and Jason Norman grabbing hold and refusing to let go of the big players as they attempted to move down field.
The team worked hard to get the ball free and out to Tom Carey another two times, where he was able to break free and take the ball down field for two more tries.
By the end of the game, the boys were muddy, tired and beat up but they were happy as they finished off the Viking Blacks 33 – 26.

It was an excellent effort by the whole team and a well deserved win.
Tom Carey was named Player’s Player while Jason Norman took out the Coaches Player award for the day.
The Yass-Rosary Rams face Marist College Royal at Marist next Saturday at 10:30.  It should be another exciting game.  Go Rams!

Kim Gourlay moved to Australia 21 years ago and has lived in Yass for the last 5 years. She started photography as a young apprentice to her father as he travelled the state of Colorado taking landscape and nature photographs. As photographer, she attends many of the local events to help preserve the history of the Yass Valley. Kim has also volunteered as a member of various committees and associations, including the Mt Carmel College Ltd Board of Directors. She is also a member of YassArts organisation. She loves living in Yass with her family and is committed to seeing it remain a strong, thriving community it is today.
