UPDATE: The Binalong man who suffered serious burns in a shed fire recently has reportedly improved to a stable condition this morning.

Wayne “Percy” Perceval, 55, suffered severe burns to 50 per cent of his body when his clothing caught alight on Saturday, August 28.

He had been burning rubbish in a combustion fire inside his farm shed when the fire spread out of control at about 11.30am.

Emergency crews transported him to Yass Rural Fire Service head quarters before he was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney in a critical condition.

He has had several operations and blood transfusions and has undergone extensive skin grafts, said police.

Percy is in an induced coma but has been upgraded to "stable condition" this morning.

But this morning he was reported to be in a stable condition.

His daughter Alicia Perceval told Scoop she would like to thank the community for their support since the accident, and for the offers of help for the long road to recovery ahead.

“It’s been an horrific/heart wrenching time,” she said.

“Dad arrived to the hospital in critical condition after a traumatic accident last Saturday.

“Dad is now in a very serious but stable condition in intensive care. Dad will remain in an induced coma until his burns both inside and outside have healed enough for him to be able to breath on his own and be a bit more comfortable.

“It’s not possible at this stage to predict how long Dad will be in hospital for but given the severity of his injuries and his ongoing treatment, recovery will take many months.”

She said her and her brother Robbie wanted to give special thanks to everyone for their endless messages, “phone calls of love and support and generosity”.

“Especially the tight-knit Binalong community. It’s touching to know that our dad is in everyone’s thoughts and loved and cared about by so many.”
